Are you planning to design your space, but worried you might ruin it? Or you might not get the desired Designing or the results you want? Well in that case, call your designer right away.
But, if you’re determined about designing a space on your own, then kudos to you first. We could not be more thrilled to help you in this journey of self-designing your space. What designers do is not a Rocket Science. It’s just the know how of certain rules, or you could say methods to get the best designing results of the space.
We know that any of the rules or methods would go top of your head, but do not stress! In the world of internet, everything is possible with just the right intent. All you have to know is how to use the Internet. For what purpose? Don’t you worry about that too, and leave that to us as that is our job.
We will take you through few important elements which we need to look at while designing and that is not going to be easy. But, that is not going to be impossible either. You can bet on that!
First we will start with principles of design which are as follows. This might bore you a little so we’ve tried to keep them short, and efficient enough.
♣ Use negative space effectively.
Designers are paid because of their brilliant analysis of the space. They use the negative space effectively. Now question may arise ‘what is negative space? Answer to that is “the space not taken up by the subject. In a home, negative space could be considered the blank spots in your home where there’s no design — no art, no furniture, no stuff.”
The easiest way to organize your stuff is to get rid of most of it. That applies only when you’re designing from the scratch and not refurbishing your space.
♣ Absence of depth.
Depth is not just another dimension. It is “the third dimension.” Work with it and emphasis on that.
Special attention/importance given to one part of work emphasizes and relates to focal point. Decide one favorite wall or corner or a certain space and make it a focal point of that room.
Consistency is more important than perfection. Whatever you choose to do with your room make sure it is consistent in the entire room.
The way elements are organized to lead the eye to focal area. After choosing your focal area you have to take each elements from that area and spread around the entire room.
When Elements of designs are arranged symmetrically or asymmetrically to create equality in weight or importance.
The relationship between objects with respect to size, numbers and so on. Make sure you don’t overdo few things. Scale is the most important principle.
All parts of the design work together to be seen as a whole. To be more precise we’d say let your room bond with every element and not fight with each other.
The different elements of design in order to highlight the difference or create visual interest. We added the the depth but how it will show? With the help of contrast.
Now comes the method of designing:
- Divergence – Exploring possibilities and constraints of inherited situations by applying critical thinking through qualitative and quantitative research methods to create new understanding (problem space) toward better design solutions.
- Transformation – Redefining specifications of design solutions which can lead to better guidelines for traditional and contemporary design activities (architecture, graphic, industrial, information, interaction.) and/or multidisciplinary response.
- Convergence – Prototyping possible scenarios for better design solutions that incrementally or significantly improve the originally inherited situation.
- Sustainability – Managing the process of exploring, redefining and prototyping of design solutions continually over time.
- Articulation – the visual relationship between the parts and the whole.
⇒ Elements of Designing.
♠ Design isn’t just visual.
Design is not something which looks attractive. But, Design is something which looks attractive and which is functions and easily operated.
♠ Be user centric.
Whenever you choose to design a certain area, space or room. Make sure you design as per the occupant of that space and room. A successful design is the one which fulfills the needs and requirements of the user of that space.
♠ Design is in detail.
Design is always in details. Any layman can make a piece of furniture but it takes the genius to make it in detail. Think of the whole process. Starting from the material, color, durability, pattern, texture, usability, scale etc.
♠ Use white space.
White space is again the space which is empty. On an empty wall if you put even a normal photo frame it enhances the feel of that wall. Use that space. but, WISELY!
♠ When everything is emphasized, nothing does.
Don’t go on emphasizing and designing everything you see in the room or space. Be mindful of the importance of each item, furniture, color or an art which going get used in that space.
♠ Keep it inspirational.
It is obvious that you want to design your own room here. So we suggest you design it in such a way that it keeps inspiring you day after day. Make sure to use things which inspires you in a certain way.
♠ Design is all about problem solving.
First rule of designing is that you make your life easier than it already was. Otherwise it makes no sense to spend your own hard earned money over it. Does it?
